Contemporary Artifacts
A collection of prints by Esther Halferty and
tile art by Lilywork Ceramic Ornament
Esther and Paul Halferty

Artifacts allow us to visualize the past. These remains describe a culture’s daily life, architecture and ornamentation.

On paper and in clay we work to preserve historic places and motif. The prints depict ornate buildings visited on travels and layering of patterning. The ceramic art designs are based on antique Greek and Turkish Island embroideries, and Persian, Korean, and Turkish traditional decorative arts.

By stylizing and taking out of context historic designs, we hope to encourage interest in another time period and culture.

Esther Halferty

Esther Halferty graduated with a B.F.A. from Hartford Art School, University of Hartford in 2004. She worked as assistant collections manager at New Britain Museum of American Art, design consultant at a tile showroom and K-10 art teacher in Istanbul, Turkey for one year.

Paul Halferty graduated from Tyler School of Art, Temple University, in 1999. Since then he worked as glaze department manager for Peace Valley Tile and is currently mold-maker at Moravian Pottery and Tile Works.

Both are owners of Lilywork Ceramic Ornament which produces decorative indoor tiles for fireplaces, and backsplashes, and outdoor ceramic pavers. Currently they are working on a fireplace for this year’s Bucks County Designer House. In 2007, Lilywork was part of Moravian Pottery and Tile Works Tile Festival, The Doylestown Arts Festival, the Upper Bucks Studio Tour and has recently been accepted into the Buyer’s Market of American Craft to be held in the Philadelphia Convention Center.

Paul and Esther have enjoyed teaching ceramic workshops at various art centers and look forward to teaching a tile-making class at the Katie Stauffer Arts Center in March.
